This is the blog of a modern day Cartographer thrown into the business world. Over the course of my journeyman's career I have wandered through positions in government, news agencies, consulting corporations and rogue start ups. The hard-earned working theory I have developed is simple. In life, communication is hard work. In business, effective communication is critical. Hence, this blog parallels the location Intelligence practices on www.GeoSteppes.com.

Mapping Oil Production - More Crude than you think
Found this via the Map Room with credits to Market Place (research by Adam Popescu).
Quick Cut & Paste:
" .... On the one-year anniversary of the BP Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico, we take a look at the future of crude as we enter an era of "tough oil." Visualizing the US Alternative Power vs. Current Grid

This visualization of the current national power grid and comparisons of several alternative energy "landscapes" (Solar, Wind, etc.) is an intriguing comparison of current power network to potential new sources of energy in an environment of ever increasing "power-hungry" demand.
Quick "Cut & Paste" highlights:
The nation’s electricity grid is facing a crisis -- it’s outdated and unprepared for increasing demand and a future that includes more renewable sources of energy. A new digital smart grid is part of the picture envisioned by advocates, as is building new electricity infrastructure.
